HTC Legend Android MP3 Mobile Phone

Okay, you got us, it isn't a dedicated mp3 player, but what is these days?

The Legend mobile phone from HTC incorporates google's own Android operating system which is built on a linux platform.

So basically this means its popular for people to develop applications for and as such it has a huge host of applications many of which are completely free, from the incredible Robot Guitar which allows you to play natural sounding guitar chords and even pluck the individual strings, right through to office applications for viewing pdf's, multi purpose calendars, security software, voice recording, and even a fake call app so you can program the phone to make a fake call to you at a pre-programmed time giving you the perfect excuse for a sharp exit!

Whats more it is an awesome mobile music device! There is an easy to access SD card slot underneath the end cap and it takes up to a whopping 32gb! There are a plethora of mobile music applications many of which are free and most of which are better than the bundled software. We really like mort player, it has good options, an in car screen with bigger buttons for skipping tracks while driving, full album artwork, track names, artist names, track times, variable options for screen dimming/powersave etc. etc.

The Legend has a built in speaker which can make a pretty loud noise but isn't the best, but the great thing is this can be hooked up with bluetooth and its easy! We tested this with a Venturi Mini in car device and it was so good we kept both! What is even better is you can also take and make calls on the move and it will pause playing and restart once the call has ended.

The other advantage of the Legend over many mobile phones is that you can use standard 1/8" headphone jacks with it. So any ordinary mp3 player headphones will fit too - for listening of course. In addition to that you can use the 1/8" jack socket to connect to an auxilliary socket or even to a 1/4 inch trs stereo output - in other words you can hook your phone up to a stereo, or even a guitar amp and blast your tunes through that.

As an mp3 player alone this is obviously one pricey piece of kit, but when you realise that this one unit can be your 5mp camera with flash, video camera, personal organiser, voice recorder, sat nav (the co-pilot software for the uk is about £30 extra but it works brilliantly) a mobile storage device, a portable games console, web browser, email client, and so on...its worth it.

The unit is tough, the Aluminium body does not show scratches easily, the sceen is tough (although we definitely recommend a screen protector, for a few pounds extra it adds protection, can be removed, and doesn't effect the touch screen capability noticably at all, you can even adjust the screen sensitivity to make up for this if you need to).

It will take some abuse to damage this beauty and due to the excellent design and incredible functionality it will hold its value strongly for many years.

Well done HTC!
