Following on from the Kubik Evo, the Kubik Edge builds on the same model but adds a camera in to the mix as well.
All in all this is a cheap unit that does a lot of tricks. Play music, drag and drop functionality, take pictures, listen to the radio...sounding good so far?
Well now throw in some of the other additional features, built in games, a calendar, an FM digital radio which you can also record from live, a clock with a wonderful sleep timer so you can listen to your tunes as your drift off to the land of nod, a video player and the ability to play unconverted Youtube videos. The decision is getting easier isn't it?
Now of course we throw in the price and hey presto, an mp3 player, camera, radio, clock, calendar, games machine for under £50? Got to be a catch right?
Well they say you get what you pay for, an this is no Apple, it feels cheap but well constructed - not particularly flimsy but don't expect it to survive being stamped on or flung against the wall in a rage. Yes it has a camera and 2MP isn't going to set the world on fire but you have to look at this as an overall package, and having a 2mp snapper handy when you're out and about can be great fun.
This is a serious contender for mp3 player of the month. Indeed for a Christmas gift this could be ideal. Most phones are capable of a lot of function these days but they are also needed as phones and as such they suffer from battery drain, even most modern units could not be used all day to listen to music, take pictures and still have the life left to make that all important call from the station when you need to be picked up.
What's needed then is a small robust but cost effective unit that can fill in some of the phone's functions without draining the call making battery life and the Kubik Evo fills this role admirably.
Everything you need, headphones, usb cable etc comes with the box.
While it is a cheaper offering you may still find yourself considerably upset if you lose or damage your Kubik Edge II.
